Kawasan Falls Canyoneering from Cebu City
About this tour
Canyoneering from Badian to Kawasan Falls is one of the Philippines' great adventure experiences — a 4–5 hour descent through river gorges, over cliff jumps, down rope rappels and through natural water slides, all ending at one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Southeast Asia. If you're even moderately active and not afraid of heights, this is an absolute must.
The journey begins in the inland barangay of Matutinao where guides hand out helmets, lifejackets and dry bags. From there you're in the river, immediately — scrambling over boulders, jumping from ledges (the highest optional jump is around 7 metres), floating through canyon passages and rappelling down short waterfalls. The guides are expert at reading the water level and adjusting the route for safety.
The canyon opens up at Kawasan Falls — a triple-tiered cascade of turquoise water so vivid it looks Photoshopped. Most canyoneers spend 30–45 minutes here, swimming and posing for photos, before the bamboo raft ride out and the van back to Cebu City. The whole day leaves you exhausted in the best possible way.

About the area
Kawasan Falls is located in the municipality of Badian, roughly 100 km south of Cebu City — about 3 hours by bus or 2 hours by private vehicle. The falls are within the Matutinao River basin, a protected watershed. The canyoneering route starts in neighbouring Alegria.
Moalboal town, 20 minutes north, is a popular base with guesthouses, dive shops and beach bars. It's also where you can watch the famous sardine run. See our Cebu guide for itinerary ideas that combine canyoneering with the sardine run and Oslob in a two-day south-Cebu loop.
