Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival Tour
About this tour
The Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan (every third week of January) is one of the Philippines' oldest and most intense festivals — the model that inspired both Sinulog (Cebu) and Dinagyang (Iloilo). Participants paint their faces and bodies black in homage to the Ati people (the original inhabitants of Panay) and dance in the streets to the non-stop beat of tribal drums. The drumming goes for 72 hours straight.
The festival is raw and participatory — you join the street parade, face paint is applied by street artists, and the sense of joyful chaos is overwhelming. Kalibo is 45 minutes from Caticlan (the gateway to Boracay), making it easy to combine with a Boracay beach stay.
