About this tour

Coron Bay is one of the world's great wreck-diving destinations, home to a fleet of Japanese auxiliary and supply ships sent to the bottom by US carrier aircraft on 24 September 1944. More than seventy years later these wrecks are encrusted in soft and hard coral and patrolled by clouds of reef fish, offering an unforgettable blend of history and marine life.

This full-day trip typically dives the more accessible wrecks such as the Olympia Maru and Kogyo Maru, which sit upright in around 25 to 30 metres with open holds, masts and cargo that are easy and atmospheric to swim around. You drift over deck guns, ladders and machinery while scorpionfish, lionfish, batfish and schooling snapper share the structure.

Visibility around the wrecks generally runs 10 to 25 metres, with moderate currents. With two tanks and a surface interval on the boat, this is the ideal day for certified divers wanting to experience Coron's signature dives without the deeper, more technical penetration of the advanced sites.

About the area

Coron Bay, in the Calamian Islands of northern Palawan, shelters one of the densest concentrations of WWII shipwrecks in the world. The Japanese fleet sunk here in 1944 now lies in relatively shallow, sheltered water, making Coron a rare destination where recreational divers can explore intact wartime ships draped in tropical coral.

Frequently asked questions

What certification do I need?
Open Water certification is enough for the shallower wrecks like Olympia Maru. Advanced or Deep certification is needed for the deeper wrecks such as the Irako.
What is the visibility like?
Visibility typically ranges from 10 to 25 metres depending on tide and season, with moderate currents around the wrecks.
Do I need wreck-penetration experience?
No. This day focuses on the easier wrecks where you swim over and around the structure. Full penetration requires specialty training and is reserved for advanced trips.
