About this tour

Built for certified divers ready to go deeper, this advanced wreck day pairs the shallow Lusong Gunboat with one of Coron's more demanding wrecks. The Lusong Gunboat is the bay's most beginner-friendly wreck, lying at just 3 to 11 metres with its stern almost breaking the surface, smothered in vibrant hard coral and swarming with reef fish, an outstanding photography and second-dive site.

The day's deeper dive usually targets a wreck such as the Akitsushima, a Japanese flying-boat tender lying on its port side from 22 to 36 metres, where you can inspect 25mm anti-aircraft guns, the crane and the radio tower, or the well-preserved Irako for experienced divers, with depths of 33 to 42 metres and tighter, darker passageways.

Currents around these wrecks can be moderate to strong and visibility runs 5 to 25 metres. With its mix of a relaxed shallow reef-wreck and a deep, dramatic warship, this trip is ideal for Advanced Open Water and Deep-certified divers wanting the full Coron experience.

About the area

Coron Bay in northern Palawan holds the wrecks of a Japanese supply and auxiliary fleet sunk in September 1944. Ranging from shallow gunboats to deep warships, the wrecks suit every level of diver, and the bay's sheltered waters and dense coral growth have earned Coron a place among the top wreck-diving destinations on Earth.

Frequently asked questions

What certification is required?
Advanced Open Water is required for the deep wrecks, and Deep Diver specialty is recommended for sites like the Irako that reach 40 metres or more.
How challenging are the conditions?
Currents can be moderate to strong and some passageways are narrow and dark. Good buoyancy control and recent dive experience are important.
Is the Lusong Gunboat suitable for all divers?
Yes. At 3 to 11 metres it is the easiest wreck in Coron and is often used as the relaxed second dive or for snorkellers tagging along.
