Albay & Catanduanes Surf & Ride Package
About this tour
This two-day package pairs the Bicol region's volcanic landscapes with one of the world's most respected waves. The journey leads to Puraran Beach in Baras, Catanduanes, home of the legendary Majestic wave, a thick, hollow right-hander that exposes to typhoon swell from the western Pacific and has been compared to Hawaii's Backdoor Pipeline for its board-snapping power. From July to October, international surfers descend to test themselves against it, but the beach also has a gentler, more sheltered side behind its rock formations where beginners can learn safely with local instructors.
The package is built around the surf, with time on the water for all levels plus the laid-back beachfront atmosphere of Puraran's nipa-hut resorts. Surrounding it is the wild, green beauty of Catanduanes, the Land of the Howling Winds, with dramatic coastlines and a slower pace that feels worlds away from the typical tourist trail. The Albay leg of the trip frames the adventure with views of the near-perfect cone of Mayon Volcano, one of the Philippines' most iconic natural wonders.
Whether you are an experienced surfer chasing the Majestic or a beginner wanting to ride your first waves in a stunning, uncrowded setting, this two-day ride-and-surf escape covers both ends of Bicol's spectrum.

About the area
Catanduanes is an island province at the easternmost edge of the Bicol region, fully exposed to the Pacific and nicknamed the Land of the Howling Winds. Its capital, Virac, is the gateway, while Puraran Beach in nearby Baras is the surfing heart. Across the water on the Bicol mainland, Albay province is dominated by the majestic, symmetrical Mayon Volcano, giving this corner of the Philippines a rugged, elemental beauty.
