Vigan Burnayan Pottery & Abel Weaving Workshop
About this tour
Beyond the famous cobbles of Calle Crisologo, Vigan keeps two centuries-old crafts alive: burnay pottery and abel weaving. This hands-on workshop takes you into the working pottery district of Pagburnayan and a traditional handloom, where you do not just watch but try the crafts yourself in one of the last places they survive.
At a burnay factory such as the long-running RG Jar Factory, you see potters shape grade-A local clay on the wheel, fired in massive brick-and-clay ground kilns that have produced earthen jars for generations. A carabao traditionally helps knead the clay, and you can get your hands muddy throwing a small piece. At the loom, master weavers demonstrate inabel, the prized Ilocano cotton textile, the rhythmic coordination of hands and feet a craft in itself.
This three-hour cultural experience celebrates the living artisan heritage that makes Vigan a UNESCO World Heritage city. It is ideal for travelers who want to engage with Ilocano culture beyond the photo spots and take home a piece they helped create or hand-woven cloth straight from the source.
