About this tour

Siquijor has long been known across the Philippines as the island of mystics and folk healers, and this cultural experience offers a respectful, fascinating window into its centuries-old healing traditions. In the highland villages around San Antonio, you meet a mananambal, a traditional folk healer, who demonstrates rituals passed down through generations.

The signature ritual is the bolo-bolo, in which the healer blows bubbles through a bamboo straw into a glass of water containing a special black stone, moving the glass over the body to diagnose and draw out ailments. The water clouds and small objects seemingly appear as the healer interprets what is causing illness, in a practice considered white magic rather than sorcery.

Beyond the ritual itself, you will learn how healers prepare herbal medicines and potions from the hundreds of medicinal plants growing on the island, and hear the folklore that has earned Siquijor its mystical reputation. Roughly three hours long, it is a unique, culturally rich encounter with a living Filipino tradition.
