About this tour

Nasugbu in Batangas is one of the Philippines' most accessible surf destinations for beginners, offering consistent one-to-two metre beach breaks that are challenging enough to give you a proper ride but forgiving enough not to scare you off. With white sand and a festive local surf scene, it's an ideal first surf experience for Manila-based visitors who don't want to fly to Siargao or Baler for their introduction to the sport.

The 90-minute lesson begins on the sand with board handling, paddle technique, the pop-up motion, and wave reading — the fundamentals that separate successful beginners from those who spend the session face-planting. Your certified instructor (trained through the Philippine Surfing Association of the Philippines coaching program) then accompanies you into the water, physically positioning you on waves and giving real-time coaching as you progress from prone rides to standing. Most beginners catch their first proper stand-up ride within the first 30 minutes of water time.

After the lesson, equipment stays yours for a free-surf session of another 1–2 hours — plenty of time to practise what you've learned without the pressure of instruction. Nasugbu's beach is swimmable and the surrounding town has good turo-turo eateries for a post-surf meal of adobo and garlic rice. The break is best at mid-tide and in the northeast monsoon season (October–February), though the wave machine runs most of the year.
