About this tour

Discover the freedom of exploring the underwater world on a single breath with this two-day freediving course in El Nido. Set in the calm, clear waters of the Bacuit Archipelago, the course teaches you the fundamentals of breath-hold diving: relaxation, efficient breathing, equalisation, finning technique and crucial safety skills, guided by certified instructors in small groups.

A typical beginner course (equivalent to an SSI or AIDA Level 1) combines theory sessions with confined-water practice and open-water dives among El Nido's reefs and drop-offs. You will learn how to perform a proper breathe-up, equalise your ears, dive down a line and, most importantly, how to buddy and rescue safely, the cornerstone of responsible freediving. Many students are surprised how quickly they progress, comfortably reaching depths of around 10 to 20 metres by the end of the course.

Beyond the certification, freediving in El Nido is simply magical: gliding weightless through clear blue water past coral and fish, with the limestone scenery above the surface as a backdrop. The course suits anyone comfortable in the water who wants to dive deeper, hold their breath longer and connect with the ocean in a calm, meditative way. Good swimming ability and reasonable fitness are recommended.

About the area

El Nido, at the northern tip of mainland Palawan, sits within the Bacuit Archipelago, a maze of limestone islands, sheltered lagoons and clear, calm water. The combination of warm temperatures, excellent visibility and protected reefs makes it one of the best and most scenic places in the Philippines to learn freediving.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to start?
No freediving experience is needed for the beginner course, but you should be a comfortable swimmer in reasonable health. The course teaches everything from breathing to safety from scratch.
How deep will I go?
Most students comfortably reach around 10 to 20 metres by the end of an entry-level course, depending on individual comfort and equalisation, all under instructor supervision.
Do I receive a certification?
Yes. On successful completion you earn an internationally recognised entry-level freediving certification (such as SSI or AIDA Level 1), letting you freedive within those limits worldwide.
