Dinagyang Festival Iloilo City — Parade Immersion
About this tour
On the fourth weekend of January, Iloilo City explodes into colour, drumbeats, and chanting for Dinagyang, one of the Philippines' most electrifying festivals. Held in honour of the Santo Nino and in memory of the ancient pact between Malay settlers and the indigenous Ati people of Panay, the festival is famous for its Ati Tribes Competition: hundreds of performers paint their bodies dark, don feathered and beaded warrior costumes, and dance in thunderous, choreographed formations to the beat of massed drums. This two-day immersion puts you right in the middle of the action, from the river fluvial procession to the grandstand showdowns along the city streets.
The word Dinagyang was coined in 1977 to set Iloilo's celebration apart from Aklan's older Ati-Atihan, and today it is regarded as the most disciplined and visually stunning street-dancing festival in the country. Your guide navigates the best vantage points for the tribu performances, explains the history each tribe re-enacts, and leads you through the food stalls, the Kasadyahan cultural parade, and the all-night Sadsad street party. Expect adrenaline, deafening drums, and a genuine sense of Ilonggo faith and pride.
