Cebu Osmeña Peak Sunrise Hike

At 1,013 metres, Osmena Peak is the highest point on Cebu Island, and this sunrise hike rewards an early alarm with one of the most spectacular panoramas in the Visayas. The trail begins in the highland village of Mantalongon in Dalaguete, known as Cebu's vegetable basket, where terraced fields of cabbage, onions and carrots climb the cool mountain slopes. The walk to the summit is short and beginner-friendly, taking only about 15 to 30 minutes from the trailhead, so almost anyone with reasonable fitness can reach the top.

From the peak you look out over a sea of jagged, grassy hills that resemble the Chocolate Hills of Bohol, with the Tanon Strait and neighbouring islands visible on a clear day. At dawn the low light throws dramatic shadows across the ridges, and the cool, sometimes misty highland air makes the climb feel a world away from the tropical lowlands. Bring a light layer, as early mornings up here can be genuinely chilly.
