About this tour

Tucked away on a remote peninsula in Camarines Sur, the Caramoan Islands offer the dramatic limestone scenery of El Nido or Coron without the crowds, which is why they are often called the El Nido of the East. Made internationally famous as the filming location for multiple foreign editions of the TV series Survivor, Caramoan rewards adventurous travellers with pristine beaches, hidden lagoons and towering karst cliffs.

This full-day island-hopping tour visits the peninsula's most beautiful islets. At Matukad Island you can climb a sharp limestone cliff to peer into a hidden lagoon said to hold two mystical milkfish. Lahos Island, whose name means to pass through, lets you walk from one beach to another between rock formations, while Cagbalinad Island offers secluded sand, great snorkelling and panoramic cove views.

With clear water, white-sand coves and rugged scenery far off the mainstream trail, Caramoan is an island-hopping gem for those willing to make the journey to Camarines Sur.

About the area

The Caramoan peninsula sits on the eastern edge of Camarines Sur in the Bicol Region. Its coastline of limestone islands, hidden lagoons and white-sand coves rivals more famous Palawan destinations, yet sees far fewer visitors. International fame arrived when several foreign versions of the Survivor TV series were filmed here, but Caramoan remains a relatively wild and unspoiled island-hopping frontier.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Caramoan?
The usual route is to fly to Naga or Legazpi in Bicol, transfer by land to Sabang port, then take a boat to Guijalo port near Caramoan town. It is a journey, which is part of why it stays uncrowded.
Is the Matukad cliff climb safe?
The short climb to Matukad's hidden lagoon is steep and over sharp rock with no harness, so it is optional and best attempted carefully with guidance. You can simply enjoy the beach instead.
When is the best time to visit?
The dry season from March to May offers the calmest seas and clearest water for island hopping along the peninsula.
