About the area

Talakag is a highland municipality in Bukidnon, in the mountainous heart of northern Mindanao not far from Cagayan de Oro. It is the gateway to the Kalatungan Mountain Range Natural Park, a protected expanse of mossy forest and towering peaks that includes Mount Kalatungan, one of the country's highest mountains and a magnet for serious hikers and trail runners.

How fit do I need to be?
Very fit. Kalatungan is a strenuous high-mountain climb with steep, technical and muddy terrain. Prior hiking or trail-running experience and strong cardio fitness are essential.
How cold does it get at the summit?
Temperatures at altitude can drop to single digits Celsius, especially overnight and at the cloud-covered summit, so warm and waterproof layers are a must.
What should I pack?
Trail shoes with good grip, warm and waterproof clothing, a headlamp, gloves, a sleeping bag if not provided, and plenty of energy food.
