Aurora Province — Baler Surfing & Falls

Baler is where Philippine surfing began, and this full-day adventure delivers both halves of what makes Aurora province special: the waves of Sabang Beach and the cool jungle plunge of Ditumabo Mother Falls. The long, grey-sand crescent of Sabang catches consistent Pacific swells that roll in gently enough for first-timers, especially during the September-to-February surf season when the breaks are at their best. Local instructors, many of whom learned the sport here as kids, get you standing on a foam board in your first session.

After the morning in the water, you trade saltwater for a freshwater finale. Ditumabo Mother Falls in nearby San Luis is a 140-foot cascade reached by a scenic 30-to-45-minute trek that crisscrosses a clear river and picks its way over boulders. The reward is a thundering curtain of water dropping into a deep, ice-cold pool you can swim in. Along the way the day can also fold in Baler's other landmarks, from the centuries-old church to the Museo de Baler, giving you the full picture of this laid-back Pacific-coast town.
