Puerto Princesa is clean, organised, and the practical gateway to Palawan — not a beach destination itself but worth a night before heading north to El Nido. The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River (a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature) genuinely earns the permit fees: paddle through 8.2 km of limestone caverns with stalactites the size of cars. Ferry from Batangas Port or fly to Puerto Princesa then bus/van.

November to May — dry season with calm seas for island hopping.
